eggs. They will accept toiletries, small toys, treats, and fresh produce.
They are open Mon, Tue, and Fri. Also they can use bags - plastic or paper.

Local Mission Opportunities: Interested in making goody bags for Halloween
which will be distributed by the Food Pantry? If so, contact Carol Voellger
(622-9926).

Local & International Mission Opportunity: September folks will be able to
sign up to participate as a walker (in reality or virtually via computer) or
part of the support crew for the O'Fallon & Shilo CROP Hunger Walk on

Prisoner Pastor - Wednesday, Aug 29th, is the day Pastor Christian will be
"jailed" for the benefit of the MDA. During the incarceration, he will be
trying to raise $1500 in order to send two children to go to summer camp and
a diagnostic work-up at one of MDA's clinics (raised so far $215. . . thank
you). If you would like to help him find a cure for 43 neuromuscular
diseases, you may donate on-line or download a mail in form by clicking

Rally Day Rendezvous - Sunday, Sept 2 at 11:30 am the Confirmation Class of
Westminster (Belleville), who worshipped with us on Sunday, is hosting a
festival to obtain support for their Confirmation Class Mission Adventure to
the June 2008 General Assembly in San Jose, CA. On Rally Day, there will be
handmade craft items, games to play, and much, much more. You can get behind
the wheel of a real race car, courtesy of Standridge Motor Sports; throw a
pie at Pastor Michelle, take a swing at David's Putt-Putt Paradise, enjoy
the musical offerings of Heather "Piano-Girl" Guetterman, and Roll up to the
miniature bowling alley.

Bible Study - Unfortunately, we did not have enough folks interested at this
time to sustain an Alpha course (for a 10 week program, best if at least 5
people are committed). We will try again around Easter and keep your eyes
open for people who may also enjoy. HOWEVER, we are going to try BIBLE
STUDY. . . so I am throwing the spaghetti against the wall and see what
sticks. . . Beginning SEPT 16th, SUNDAYs from 5 to 6:30 PM, this first
series will be on the Book of Acts and be for 5 weeks (Theme: Disciples in
Exile). ALSO, we will try out beginning SEPT 19th, WEDNESDAYs from 7 to 8:30
PM, and this series will focus on the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, which the
early Christian's considered the 'Fifth Gospel'. This will also be a five
week group study. Location will be either at the church office, a member's
home, or Pr. Christian's home (TBA). Email me your preference, and all we
need to two or three people and a couple of bibles to begin (invite a
friend).

Installation of Pastor Christian - We have been reminded that after we are
able to coordinate a date with the Moderator of the Presbytery, we need to
organize and invite the Presbytery to a celebration of new ministry and
installation of Christian to his new ministry post. We are looking at
Saturday, Oct 27th, Sunday, Oct 28th (All Saints weekend), Saturday, Nov
24th, Sunday, Nov 25th, (Christ the King weekend) Saturday, Dec 1st (St
Andrew / Advent I weekend). Time wise all would be in the late afternoon to
facilitate members of other Presbyterian churches to join us. Ideas
collected so far - with the later dates, the corn will have been cut and we
could gather on the property for the celebration, and perhaps also
incorporate a blessing of the grounds. We could also ask every body to bring
a rock with them, especially those coming from other churches (who might
even write their church's name on it), in order to build a cairn. If we do
it close to St Andrew Day, kilts and bagpipes (imagine the scene on the
corner of Kyle & Lincoln). If you would like to be on the planning task
force, contact Pastor Christian.

+ + +

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one
accord to make our common supplication to you; and you
have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two
or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the
midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions
as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of
your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting.

In peace, we pray to you, Lord God.

For all people in their daily life and work;
For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who
are alone.

For this community, the nation, and the world;
For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.

For the just and proper use of your creation;
For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;
For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the
needy.

For the peace and unity of the Church of God;
For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.

For all the baptized and your servant leaders;
For all who serve God in his Church.

For the special needs and concerns of this congregation.
Hear us, Lord;
For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life.

We will exalt you, O God our King;
And praise your Name for ever and ever.

We pray for all who have died, that they may have a place in
your eternal kingdom. Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them;
Who put their trust in you.

We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;
in your compassion forgive us our sins,
known and unknown,
things done and left undone;
and so uphold us by your Spirit
that we may live and serve you in newness of life,
to the honor and glory of your Name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray,

Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy Name,
    thy kingdom come,
    thy will be done,
        on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
    as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
    and the power, and the glory,
    for ever and ever. Amen.

Watch Word for the Week:

The steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those
who are in awe of him.

Psalm 103:17
