For those who have expressed interest in working and helping our sisters and
brothers related to United African, especially the new immigrants, I have
been talking to Pr. Jemimah and Linda Shugert, who chairs the Immigrant
Congregation Action Team of the Presbytery. See the info below, and I am
encouraging those who are interested to come with me to the Christmas party
on the 15th.

Thanks for your rapid reply and your interest. I will start working on
getting one of our people to come to talk to your congregation on a Sunday
morning during your worship.
Right now the UAPC and the Burundis have enough clothes. People have been
very generous with good used clothing and also with helping to buy new
clothes (mainly, coats, shoes, jeans for the men and boys, leggings for the
women and new underwear). The one exception could be the new family that
has recently been added. In addition, we can always use items such as tooth
paste, toilet paper, tooth brushes, soap--things they are unable to buy with
food stamps. We are hoping to collect those types of items to have on hand
all the time at the UAPC so the families can simply take what they need as
they need them.
The sponsoring churches have been developing a relationship with the
families. For instance, when money is collected for items such as coats and
shoes, someone or some people from the church usually go along on the
shopping day. In addition, several of us have been to the apartments where
they are located on more than one occasion. We are having a Christmas
luncheon at the UAPC for the Burundis after their ESL classes on Dec.15.
So, you can get as involved personally as you wish (and it really is a
blessing to everyone who gets personally involved). After the first of the
year, we are planning to have each of the individual families visit their
sponsoring church on a Sunday morning for worship.
At this point, we may have to wait until after Christmas to get someone to
come and speak to your congregation. I will let you know asap.
Linda
