INTERIM SYNOD EXECUTIVE

With the retirement of the Rev. John Williams, the Synod is searching
for an Interim Synod Executive.  We are looking for someone who can assist in
discerning the Synod’s mission for these days as well as continuing its
ongoing work.  We would prefer someone who has had Interim training and/or
experience.  If you are interested or know someone who might be interest,
please contact Jan Bloomingdale at 913-649-6226 or jancbloom at everestkc.net

MIDWEST ICE STORM

States of emergency are in effect across Kansas,
Missouri and Oklahoma,
following a storm that dumped as much as an inch of ice across parts of the Midwest.  The U. S. Department of Energy
estimates more than half a million customers are without electricity in the
plains states.  Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) National Response Team
members, the Reverends Bob Houser and Paul Reiter, have been in contact with
the affected presbyteries to assist in their relief and recovery efforts, and
PDA stands ready to provide financial and other assistance as the presbyteries
identify needs.   PDA will also be in touch with areas of the Northwest that
have been affected by this same storm system.  Additional information will be
posted on the PDA web site at www.pcusa.org/pda/response/usa/midwest-icestorm-index.htm

Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have experienced damages or
losses from the storm.  Some areas may be in need of work teams to assist with
cleanup.  We suggest that you contact Presbytery Offices for additional
information if you would like to assist.  The contact information is as
follows:

SOUPER FUND-RAISING EVENT TAKES A BITE OUT OF HUNGER

Super Bowl Sunday isn’t just about football any more.  Combine
the day with an annual nationwide youth effort called the Souper Bowl of
Caring, tapping worshipers for donations, and you’ve got a great way to
help the hungry.  This faith-based crusade against hunger, started by a
Presbyterian pastor in 1990, has signed up youth groups to collect money and
canned goods in soup cauldrons when parishioners leave services on Super Bowl
Sunday, which will be February 3.  Organizers hope to raise $10 million through
the 2008 Souper Bowl of Caring.  In 2007, more than 14,000 organizations and
congregations from 50 states and a variety of faith groups raised $8.1
million.  A total of 2,450 Presbyterian congregations took part, contributing
more than $1 million.  More than 2,200 PC9USA) groups have already registered
to participate in the 2008 event.  For more information about the Souper Bowl
of Caring or to register a church or group, call 800-358-SOUP (7587).
