[Members] Explanation and reminder about Saturday

Affirming Our Faith
 
As Presbyterians, we understand membership in a particular church to be our 
response to God’s calling us to serve as disciples in our community as part of 
the body of Christ.  New Creation is a church “in development,” and 
therefore, cannot formally accept people into membership.  That does not, however, mean 
that we are any less committed to the growth of this congregation!  
 
Some of us are members in other congregations of the Presbyterian Church 
(USA).  Some of those churches are even in the Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery.  Some 
of us are members in other denominations.  And some of us are not members of 
any church at all—other than the body of Christ.  We all hold something in 
common, however—a commitment to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ through the 
mission and ministry of New Creation Presbyterian Church.
 
It’s time we ALL got on the SAME page!
 
To that end, all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and have followed your 
faith to New Creation are invited to proclaim it and be joined into 
membership together.  Technically we will be put on the rolls of the Presbytery of 
Giddings-Lovejoy.  As soon as our church is chartered, our names will be 
transferred automatically to the official rolls of New Creation Presbyterian Church.  
 
No matter what your membership status is now, everyone will go through the 
same basic process.  On Saturday, February 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Conference 
room across the hall from the church office, members of New Creation will meet 
for a brief one hour session with Rev. Michelle Parsons and other members of 
the Administrative Commission from the Presbytery.  The purpose of the meeting 
is to make sure that everyone understands the meaning of church membership, 
which involves having a conversation about how our faith journeys have lead us 
to this place and time.
 
The only thing you need to bring is yourself!
 
On Sunday, February 4th, we will celebrate our common commitment to this 
mission as part of our morning worship.  Jody and representatives from the 
Commission will lead us in a “Reaffirmation of the Baptismal Covenant,” the service 
that is used whenever members are joined with a PC(USA) congregation.  It is a 
refreshing opportunity to stand together, affirming and renewing the faith 
into which we have all been baptized.
 
When asked on Sunday, many of you acknowledged that you’d be there.  Please 
mark your calendars for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church office.
